FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Title: FIP raises over $2200 in first annual “Gravy Bowl” fundraiser for the Vietnam Veterans of America

Conshohocken, PA June 6, 2019 – Financial Independence Planning (FIP) held their 1st Annual Summer Kickoff Fundraising Event for the Vietnam Veterans of America on June 1st at the North Penn Fire Hall in North Penn, PA.

The afternoon recognized the men and women who have served the United States. In attendance were clients who had seen action in the Pacific theater such as long-time client Oh Lee who honored the fundraiser by attending in his Vietnam fatigues. He and his guest Dr. Heung Chi recounted battles they had fought and witnessed over 40 years ago. The fundraiser was an idea borne from FIP’s Advisory Council, two of whom – Keith Smith and Cindy Schwebel were on the first steering committee to spearhead this effort.  Keith, himself a veteran and recently retired as Director at US Biodesign, emphasized that “this was our first effort to recognize a very worthy cause and next year’s will involve even more folks from the community.”

Harry Keller, founder and CEO of Financial Independence Planning delivered an important message: “There are hundreds of causes, but we felt that this one resonated with many of our clients who lived through the era of Vietnam and served our country and its principles with honor.”

60 clients and friends of the FIP community attended the Gravy Bowl.  About 13 clients and friends competed by bringing over a gallon of sauce each. Attendees sampled the different sauces with gusto, complemented by generous helpings of pasta, Italian bread, and salad. Guests polished off scrumptious cookies freshly baked by Violet Hahn from Sweet Sinclair Bakery and delectable macaroons hand-made by Erica Koffler from 3monkeysmacaroons.com. After sampling the sauces, attendees voted on their top two favorite sauces which were identified only by alphabet.  The count was done with CPA and FIP financial advisor, Tom Malkoch.  The winners were Keith Smith with his “hot and spicy” sauce and Tatiana Damico with her delicious secret family recipe. A beautiful basket of wines, generously donated by Gifts with a Twist 4U raised another $300 from the raffle.
